Episode 1: A kind of introduction
Aired live on Worm Radio Tuesday, 9 March 2021 at 18h.
On Packing Light is an artistic research project by Lili Huston-Herterich. It uses the method of episodic sound (it's a podcast) to think through the subject of textiles and clothing, ranging from personal accounts to political histories. In the first epsiode of On Packing Light, I introduce live (forgive me) the background for this research, starting with the jingle commissioned from Amsterdam-based artist Ivan Cheng, who covered Erykah Badu's song Bag Lady, which is where the title of the podcast originates.
This episode features readings from Sara Ahmed's 'A Phenomonology of Whiteness' (2007), Anne Boyer's 'Garments Against Women' (2015), a recording of my sister Elizabeth Huston-Herterich and my mother Meg Huston shopping, and the songs Erykah Badu's Bag Lady (2000) and Queen Naija's Pack Lite (2020).
